Clicker Number Just Turns Red on the Screen - No Response Recorded

This article addresses the problem of a student responding with their clicker and instead of turning blue to indicate a response, the student's pad number on the on-screen projected feedback grid turns red and no response is recorded for them.

There are two likely causes for this problem:


The Student is Entering an Invalid Answer Choice

If a student responds to an ABCD question by pressing E, their box will flash red to let them know they've responded "out of range" for the acceptable answer choices.


You Resumed the Clicker Session After Adding the Student to Your Roster

If you started this clicker session and then left it without clicking the "Close Session" button and confirming, the session was paused for that class, waiting for you to resume it and continue until you properly close it by clicking "Close Session." If you then add a student to your roster and re-launch that session (resume it), the new student is not included in the ongoing report that started being built from when you first launched the session.

To resolve this problem, go back into the session the way you did before and choose the same class (it should say "unfinished" next to it to indicate there is a paused session), close the session by clicking "Close Session," and confirm in the following prompt that you are sure and want a report created. Then you should be able to launch the activity again, you should not see any classes in the "choose your class" list with "Unfinished" next to them, and all the students on your roster will be able to participate in the activity.
